Civil War Medal of Honor

ALBG Spring 2012 Seminar: The Gettysburg Medals of Honor

April 13-14, 2012

The Association of Licensed Battlefield Guides, Inc. proudly announces the 2012 edition of its popular spring seminar series.  Our spring program will focus on the officers and enlisted men who received the Medal of Honor for action at the Battle of Gettysburg.

Sixty-three Medals of Honor were ultimately awarded Union soldiers for Gettysburg actions with a possible sixty-fourth in the works. In addition, a numberof souther soldiers were placed on the Confederate Roll of Honor as authorized by General Orders 93 dated November 22, 1862. These will be the focus of this weekend event.

The seminar includes a Friday night reception and presentation, followed by Saturday’s all-day program in the field. In addition to detailed tours and presentations by expert Licensed Battlefield Guides, participants will receive transportation, maps and materials, lunch, and the chance to better understand the men who's actions earned them their nation's highest accolade.

(Note: This seminar may  involve significant walking over occasionally difficult terrain).

Tour Schedule:

We will meet at the GAR Hall on East Middle Street for light refreshments followed by LBG Gary Roche giving an overview of the weekend topic.  Gary's ancestor - Patrick DeLacy, a Gettysburg veteran and member of the 143rd Pennsylvania, was the recipient of a Medal of Honor for actions during the Battle of the Wilderness in May of 1864.

Today will consist of two field tours, each of three hours duration led by LBGs Roy Frampton and Renae MacLachlan. both of whom have studied the backgrounds of the award recipients for many years. Roy and Renae will take us to the various sites around the field where these actions took place.

Sunday, April 15:

Optional: Special Sunday morning tour at no additional cost will be provided for those who will still be in town until later in the day.

Included:

In addition to a welcoming reception on Friday evening, and a full day’s schedule of tours, participants will receive maps, materials, and a box lunch on the battlefield.
